This paper explores The Racing Project, a Unity-based racing game that became a study of digital familiarity and emotional resonance. By incorporating a 3D model of Christ College, the game shifted from a technically competent but emotionally neutral experience to one that evoked nostalgia, belonging, and communal memory among players. Drawing on this, study shows that recognition of familiar virtual spaces generates emotional presence, transforming gameplay into a reflective, philosophical experience. Case studies like Assassin’s Creed and GTA V reinforce how virtual reconstructions of real spaces foster affective engagement. The work argues that emotional resonance in digital environments stems not from complexity or mechanics alone, but from ontological familiarity, where digital spaces become meaningful places imbued with memory, identity, and communal significance.
